German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder will decide at the last moment whether or not to go ahead with a planned visit to the Middle East due to start Saturday, the government spokesman said in Berlin Monday.
Spokesman Uwe Karsten-Heye said the trip from October 28 to November 3 depended now on how the situation in the Middle East developed.
Schroeder's tour is to take him to Israel, Syria, Egypt, Lebanon and Jordan as well as the Palestinian territories.
Heye said the German government hoped Israelis and Palestinians would return to the negotiating table to end the current state of violence and that Schroeder would stress on his trip that there was no alternative to negotiations – BERLIN (AFP)
