A 24-year-old German man was arrested for allegedly joining Daesh after visiting Syria from October 2013 until November 2014, Reuters reports.

The German citizen was arrested in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. There is no evidence that he was planning terrorist attacks, according to Reuters.

The arrest follows the Charlie Hebdo attack as well as an increase in anti-Islamic sentiment in Germany as thousands protested the supposed "Islamization" of the country alongside Pegida.
