A leading German hernia specialist will give a lecture in Dubai on the latest surgical treatment options when she addresses the 96th session of Welcare Hospital’s Learning Circle, the UAE’s longest running, largest and most successful continuing medical education lecture series.
Dr. Ulrike Muschaweck, founder and surgical chief at the Hernia Center Munich and an international lecturer who has performed more than 12,000 hernia repairs, will address more than 200 doctors on the topic, “Hernia Surgery Today – Novel Technique in Inguinal & Umbilical Hernia Repair”.

“We began the Learning Circle eight years ago, soon after we launched Welcare Hospital, because we recognized the need for continuing medical education in the country and felt that it would reinforce Welcare’s fundamental commitment to holistic care and evidence-based medicine,” Dr. Cruse added.
Held twice monthly, the lectures conducted by Welcare World Health Systems are attended by general practitioners and doctors from hospitals in both the public and private sectors. It also serves as a unique opportunity for international specialists and Welcare practitioners to share their expertise and update peers on latest clinical trends and best practices and is particularly popular for its lively question and answer sessions.

Dr. Cruse said he and his team develop topics for the Learning Circle by reviewing international scientific literature and watching medical news and update services for the latest clinical trends. They then match them against the needs in the UAE and source relevant speakers. Other speakers are from Welcare World Health Systems’ own staff, while additional international experts offer to speak when visiting Dubai to see patients or perform operations or when nominated to do so by clinical colleagues.
Dr. Muschaweck, who developed a novel hernia surgery technique called “minimal repair” or “Muschaweck Repair” has lectured at dozens of forums and published in many journals. She is a member of the International Advisory Board of the European Hernia Society GREPA, the American Hernia Society and the German Hernia Society.
