The British embassy in Oman said Wednesday a German tourist has been shot dead in unclear circumstances.
The embassy noted Tuesday's incident took place in broad daylight in a centarl area of the capital city of Muscat.
According to Reuters, last month another European tourist was shot and seriously wounded near a local hospital in the city. Omani officials said that incident was a hunting accident.
"Both victims were alone at the time of the shootings. Neither was an obvious target for attack," the British embassy said, according to Reuters.
It should be noted that the Omani government has been promoting tourism, consistent with its policy of economic diversification, with emphasis on the Muscat metropolitan area and coastal towns.
