The German government praises Egypt’s “vital role” in achieving future peace and stability in the Middle East, said a high-ranking German foreign ministry official.
Head of the Far East Department at the German foreign ministry, Wolfganag Forefrek, said his country “commends President Hosni Mubarak’s wisdom, and his important role in achieving stability in the region,” the daily Al-Ahram quoted him as saying.
Forefrek’s remarks came ahead of Mubarak’s visit to Germany next Tuesday, said the paper.
The Egyptian President will embark on a European tour that will also take him to Romania and Russia.
“The German government is looking forward to consulting with Mubarak about the critical situation in the Palestinian territories and Lebanon,” Forefrek said.
Meanwhile, Egypt’s ambassador to Romania, Sammer Hattab, told the paper that Mubarak’s visit to Bucharest will further strengthen Egyptian-Romanian relations in various fields.
He said that Mubarak’s visit will be the first by a head of state since President Alesco was elected in December last year.
The paper added that Mubarak’s visit to Moscow will focus on the Middle East and ways of strengthening bilateral ties.
Within the same context, Egypt online reported that a joint cooperation commission will meet to look into expanding economic and trade links between the two countries.
A fair of Egyptian products is also planned in Moscow, said the news service.
The two countries will also sign a number of agreements, including a long-term program of economic, industrial, trade, technical, scientific and health cooperation.
