Global Humanitarian and Peace Visionary Ravi Shankar in Jordan


The Art of Living Association Jordan (AOL) hosted a public talk in honor of the association’s founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankar during his second visit to Jordan.  The event was held on Saturday, December 20, 2008 at the Sheraton Hotel. Global humanitarian and renowned spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shanker founded the Art of Living Foundation, an entity dedicated to world peace, prosperity and a better future for all. He was welcomed by deputy mayor of Amman Mr. Amer Al-Bashir and members of the AOL association Jordan. The special talk was sponsored by VARCC Arabian Communications, AdPro Advertising and Sunny FM. 

The talk started with a visionary film on how to achieve a peaceful, prosperous and safe world; a vision Sri Sri Ravi Shankar carries with him throughout his world tours, including areas of conflict like Iraq.  Sri Sri Ravi Shankar also discussed the aim of the Art of Living to inspire good human relations with a message to celebrate life.

Deputy Mayor of Amman Mr. Al-Bashir welcomed Sri Sri for the second time in Amman and hoped that his mission to Iraq will be a successful one. Governor Rabiha Al-Dabbas an AOL members shared with the audience her experience in Bangalor-India while she attended the women’s conference. HE expressed how her outlook had shifted after meeting and interacting with 150 women from 50 different countries. She Also stated: “The Art of Living advocates that sharing cultures promotes understanding”.

Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, teaches people to eliminate stress and discover inner peace through breathing techniques and spiritual thinking so they may overcome their personal struggles and regain their smile.  Once inner peace is discovered, people can achieve their vocations, develop and progress through life in a peaceful, loving and humanitarian manner.

 

The Art of Living is an international non profit and non governmental organisation, affiliated to the United Nations. Having touched over 40 million people globally with its healing breathing techniques, the organisation is considered the world’s largest and fastest growing volunteer based NGO. With over 5000 centres across more than 140 countries, the Art of Living serves to bring down stress levels and inspire good human values with a message to celebrate life. 

Sri Sri also added that people from all walks of life, cultures, nationalities and communities undergo the Art of Living workshops which teach breathing techniques that help eliminate stress, clear the mind, and improve concentration leading to increased productivity and general well being.

Sri Sri focused in particular on the Youth Leadership Training Program that is designed to train youth to become community leaders and agents of social change and how it teaches them to deal with their inner struggles to avoid the aggression self destruction paths.  The 5H program of the organization, addresses issues like homes for the homeless, health and well being, hygiene, human values and harmony in diversity.  The Art of Living social initiatives also address issues such as: conflict resolution, disaster and trauma relief, prisoner rehabilitation, woman empowerment, female foeticide, child labor and access to education.

The Art of Living Association was founded in 1981 by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, a Noble Peace Prize nominee for two consecutive years.  A recipient of various awards including the Global Humanitarian Award in USA, Peter the Great - First Grade Award in Russia, Order of the Pole Star- highest state honor by the President of Mongolia, and the Dara Shikoh National Award for Harmony in India, Sri Sri has been invited on several occasions to speak at high profile events for the United Nations, the World Economic Forum, etc..

As part of his Middle East tour, after Jordan, Sri Sri will travel to Iraq in his unflinching quest for a stress free and violence free world.
