Egyptian Prime Minister Atef Ebeid is expected to soon approve the appointment of 100 local leaders to top posts at the central, municipal and neighborhood levels, the daily Al Ahram said on Monday.
Minister of the Local Development Mustafa Adel Qader held a meeting Sunday for the final review of the appointments before handing the list over to the prime minister for endorsement.
The minister announced that the cabinet had decided that no leader should stay more than five years in his post, and that they should be honest, straight, of good moral fiber and conduct, and competent for fieldwork and crisis management.
The appointments also require the approval of the concerned agencies, after the necessary investigations.
“The humanitarian circumstances, plans and visions for the new leaders are…in compliance with [Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak]’s instructions on the need for ongoing performance development and the use of modern technology,” added the minister.
The minister said that the move included transferring some local leaders to make use of their experience in other locations, and filling some vacant positions in cities and neighborhoods – Albawaba.com
