Four members of Algeria’s security forces, four civilians, and ten suspected Islamic militants were killed in a wave of recent attacks across Algeria.
The civilians were killed Tuesday near Djelfa, 170 miles southeast of Algiers. Algerian newspaper La Nouvelle reported that their vehicle drove over a mine and went up in flames.
Algerian newspaper La Tribune reports that alleged Islamic militants killed four security forces men during a firefight 250 miles west of Algiers, in Oran. The fight occurred after a group of rebels attacked a security patrol that was taking part in a “clean-up” operation, which was began on Friday by Algerian Security. Seven security officers and two rebels have been killed since the operation was launched.
The news daily Ech-Chourouk reports that 300 miles east of Algiers, in Collo, seven Islamic rebels were shot and killed by security forces on Monday. An additional three fighters were killed Monday in separate incidents near Tizi Ouzou, in the eastern Kabyle region and in Boumerdes, located 30 miles east of the capital, according to El Khabar.
An estimated 120,000 people have been killed since the insurgency began in Algeria ten years ago. (www.albawaba.com)
