ALBAWABA - Gaza is witnessing a much-needed influx of humanitarian aid through the newly opened Refah Border Crossing. The situation in the region is evolving rapidly.
The Palestinian spokesperson for the Rafah Crossing, Wael Abu Omar, disclosed that a convoy of aid trucks made its way into Gaza today. These trucks are en route to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) headquarters situated in the southern part of the Gaza Strip.
In an interview with "Sky News Arabic," Abu Omar revealed that, to date, eight out of the reported 20 aid trucks that entered Gaza on Saturday have completed the necessary procedures and advanced to UNRWA offices in Palestinian Rafah and Khan Yunis in the southern region of Gaza. UNRWA is responsible for the subsequent distribution of these aid supplies across the cities and villages of Gaza.
It is noteworthy that the primary UNRWA headquarters, which was previously located in the city of Gaza in the north, had to relocate to Rafah and Khan Yunis due to Israeli airstrikes. The United Nations organization currently maintains offices in all cities throughout the Gaza Strip.
This aligns with the assurances provided by the Israeli military, which indicated that the humanitarian aid being ushered into Gaza would be directed exclusively to the southern areas of the Strip, in line with their encouragement for Palestinian civilians to converge there.
In a televised press conference, Daniella Haggerty, the spokesperson for the Israeli army, made it clear that the aid shipments would not include any provisions of fuel.
