Greater Amman Municipality Adopts New Rules

District Committee for Planning and Building in Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) approved the licensing of existing and proposed wedding halls (licensed and unlicensed) within its boundaries. Wedding halls licensed were only confined to regulated pieces of land, be they commercial, industrial or for exhibition purposes.

The regulations stipulated that the said wedding halls shall be isolated by a middle island, or on a one way street, with a width not less than 20m, and parking spaces according to article 16 of Planning and Building Code.

According to the regulations, a wedding hall shall be built at least 250m (long) away from the nearest worship house or hospital, and 400m (long) away from another wedding hall.

The regulations requested that the permission of the Traffic Directorate and the concerned sides be submitted before licensing, as well as installing no-stop or no-park signs before the lands to be licensed, in cooperation with the Traffic Engineering Directorate, noting that only one license is allowed for a wedding hall on one piece of land.

The Committee has also decided that license can be issued for existing and proposed wedding halls along with service road, and a separate entrance and exit for a parking lot off the service road whenever possible, unless special provisions stipulate otherwise.

It is mandatory that in case there is no available space for parking within the boundaries of the hall, there shall be a parking lot in an open yard, or a piece of land neighboring and/or adjacent to the building, on condition that a sign to the effect that the said piece of land is not for sale be installed, and that concerned departments be addressed on the matter.

Regulations also authorized concerned committees to request a management and parking organization contract, noting that such procedure to be observed upon license renewal.
