The Greek government said Wednesday that sending more foreign troops to Iraq was merely complicating the situation and called for a swift handover of authority to the UN.
Asked to comment on Ankara's decision to commit troops to the US-led campaign in Iraq, government spokesman Christos Protopapas said "this story about foreign troops is leading nowhere and complicates rather than resolving problems."
"Foreign troops in Iraq create huge dangers, which are unfortunately already visible," he conveyed.
"The faster the United Nations take over, the faster Iraqi sovereignty starts being established, the faster Iraqis take their fate in their own hands, the bigger the benefit for the international community," he added. (Albawaba.com)
