A new Palestinian group in the Palestinian town of Bethlehem assailed a statement by a Palestinian official announcing the arrest of “an Israeli spy,” who allegedly opened fire at the Jewish Gilo settlement in Beit Jala.
The statement, which was dismissed later by the Palestinian authority, said the act was “to give Israel the excuse to bombard Beit Jala,”
The Strugglers for Bethlehem group said such a statement by the official “casts doubt on any patriotic action against Israel, a policy that would abort the Intifada and kill its spirit.”
“It should not be forgotten that the Intifada is a spontaneous popular phenomenon involving the young and the old, members of factions and others. We should not forget that the Israeli shelling caused damage not only to houses in Beit Jala and Beit Sahour, but also to hospitals…” the Strugglers’ statement, of which Albwaba.com has received a copy.
The statement did not name the Bethlehem security official, but charged that he was the one who took a decision to hand over to the Israelis four Jewish settlers who entered the city, “but did not publish the news, or try to invest it politically.” – Albawaba.com
