The leader of the United Arab Emirates has slammed US "bias" toward Israel and said the international community should have more than a say in resolving the Middle East conflict, newspapers reported Tuesday.

"The position of the United States is biased in favor of Israel," Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan al-Nahyan said in a meeting late Monday at the end of a brief visit by Pakistan's military leader General Pervez Musharraf.

"It is incumbent upon her as a superpower with international obligations to be fair and stand by what is right and just, and not to side with Israel, which has usurped the land of others," said the president.

He said a settlement to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict should come through joint efforts, including Christian and Muslim leaders, and "from the international community as a whole and not from a single country".

"It is the majority which has the right to make a decision on the crucial Palestinian issue," Sheikh Zayed insisted -- ABU DHABI (AFP)
