A prayer leader has been shot dead by unidentified gunmen in central Kapisa province, an official said on Monday.
Abdul Fattah Shafiq, the Hisa Awal Kohistan district chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News Abdul Tayeb gunned down while praying in his mosque in Kham Zargar area.
Another person praying in the mosque was injured, Shafiq said, adding Tayeb was a young man and had no personal enmity with anyone.
No one has so far been detained in connection with the murder incident but police have launched a search for the killers.
Faridoon, a resident of Kham Zargar area, confirmed the incident and said target killings had recently increased in Kapisa.
He recalled an imam was killed in a similar fashion two months ago. The situation had raised concern and people were in need of security forces’ support, Faridoon said.
No grouphas so far claimed responsibility for the attack.
