HACC Urges Arabs to Boycott WTO Meeting

The Higher Agricultural Coordination Committee (HACC), a forum of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) called for coordinated action against war and globalization, and urged all Arab countries on Wednesday to boycott the meeting due to be held in Qatar Friday month by the World Trade Organization.

Following the HACC regular meeting, the committee issued a statement accusing the WTO of seeking to dominate foreign markets, said The Daily Star.

According to the Beirut-based paper, the committee urged all social and professional organizations in Lebanon and other Arab countries to “stand united against the policy of globalization” and called on all Arab and African states to reconsider their positions toward the WTO.

"Global capitalism has now a military wing: the military industry," Britain's Lindsey German, editor of the publication Socialist Review, told the Beirut forum, cited by AFP.

"It is not the job of the West to intervene in the internal affairs of other smaller countries. We have to resist the concept of bombing countries back to civilization," said German.

She argued that the US-led strikes on Afghanistan were not a war on terrorism. "If it was, it would have been rooting out terrorism in the world, including the state of Israel and its prime minister (Ariel Sharon), who is probably the best case in the world to be tried for war crimes." – Albawaba.com
