The armed wing of the Palestinian Islamic movement Hamas made a veiled threat Thursday to kill top Palestinian security chief, Mohammed Dahlan, accusing him of ordering the arrest of one of its militants.

Ezzedin al-Qassam Brigades issued a statement accusing Dahlan, head of preventive security in the Gaza Strip, of sending hundreds of his agents to the Jabalia refugee camp to arrest Khalil Sakani several days ago.

"The cannons now pointed at the Jews usurpers could turn against traitors, collaborators and the corrupt," it said.

Ezzedin said Dahlan's forces opened fire and injured dozens of camp residents after Sakani fled. It added that 11 people were arrested, including the fugitive's brother.

Camp residents confirmed the incidents, which they said took place on Monday, but said only two people were lightly injured -- GAZA CITY (AFP)
