Hamas police in the Gaza strip arrested dozens of members of the Fatah movement at a ceremony in Khan Yunis, AFP reports.

“Hamas police intervened during a ceremony to honor martyrs. They arrested dozens of people for no reason,” spokesman Hassan Ahmad told AFP.

A spokesman for Hamas said the meeting organizers had not obtained permission to gather.

“Around 20 people were detained and later released after signing a document not to take part in unauthorized meetings,” the spokesman for Hamas said.

Fatah controls the West Bank while Hamas has control of the Gaza Strip. The two groups signed a reconciliation agreement in 2011 with the help of Egypt. Relations between the two groups have been sour since 2006.
