An Israeli officer was seriously wounded Sunday by a Palestinian sniper who opened fire on an army post in the Gush Katif bloc of settlements in the Gaza Strip.
Earlier, four home-made Qassam rockets fired from the Gaza Strip landed near the Israeli town of Sderot on Sunday morning. No injuries were reported.
Meanwhile, Israeli security forces were on heightened alert Sunday morning following the assassination of four Hamas members in an Israeli helicopter missile attack on a car in Gaza City the previous morning, Israel Radio reported. The target of the strike was Ibrahim al-Maqadma, a senior leader of Hamas political wing.
Army Radio reported that police have increased security near the homes in Kochav Yair of ministers Shaul Mofaz and Gideon Ezra, and former prime minister Ehud Barak.
In the West Bank, 13 Palestinians were arrested overnight Saturday - eight in Hebron and five in Nablus.
In Hebron, Israeli forces blew up the homes of the two Hamas members who carried out the Friday's attack on Kiryat Arba. It also demolished the home of the suicide bomber who killed 16 people Wednesday when he blew himself up on a bus in Haifa.
In the Kabatiya village near Jenin, the Israeli army blew up the home of Mohammed Abu Roub, a senior military wing leader of the Islamic Jihad, who was arrested by Israeli troops on Friday. (Albawaba.com)
