The armed wing of Hamas, Ezzedin al-Qassam, warned on Wednesday in its first statement in months that Israel "would open the door of hell" if it tried to kill any Palestinian Islamic or nationalist leader.
"We warn the Zionist entity of hurting any leader among our leaders, be they Islamic or nationalist.
"Any stupidity carried out by the enemy will open the gate of hell and the price will be very high and they will not be able to bear it," Ezzedin al-Qassam said in a statement received by AFP here.
The statement came only hours after Israel killed four Palestinians, including a leader of the militia of Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat's Fatah movement in an army ambush near a Jewish settlement in the Gaza Strip.
A Palestinian official branded the killings an unprovoked execution and warned they would trigger a new cycle of violence.
Hamas's armed wing has been responsible for numerous anti-Israeli attacks, including a string of suicide bus bombings, since the signing of the Israeli-Palestinian peace accords in 1993 -- GAZA CITY (AFP)
