Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh on Tuesday published for the first time an article in the Washington Post, saying raids like the current one in the Gaza Strip would only ensure Israelis had no peace.
"We present this clear message: If Israel will not allow Palestinians to live in peace, dignity and national integrity, Israelis themselves will not be able to enjoy those same rights," Haniyeh wrote.
Haniyeh added in the Washington Post "the Gaza invasion is only the latest effort to destroy the results of fair and free elections held early this year" in the Palestinian territories.
He accused Israel and the United States, which has spearheaded a Western suspension of aid to the Palestinian Authority, of waging "economic and diplomatic warfare."
"The stated intention of that strategy was to force the average Palestinian to 'reconsider' his vote when faced with deepening hardship; its failure was predictable, and the new overt military aggression and collective punishment are its logical fulfillment," Haniyeh wrote.
In Amman, Jordan's king Abdullah II held talks on Tuesday with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on the situation in the Gaza Strip, where many Palestinians had been killed over the past few days as a result of the Israeli military operations.
The king said that Jordan will do its utmost with the international community to guarantee an end to the Israeli military operations and ease the suffering of the Palestinian people.
According to Petra, the King affirmed that violence and counter-violence will not bring security to the Israelis and the Palestinians.
