ALBAWABA - Hannibal Gaddafi has been imprisoned in Lebanon since 2015, and as his health reportedly declines, he has been hospitalized urgently. He has been on a hunger strike for more than two weeks.
Hannibal Gaddafi, the son of the late Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, announced earlier this month that he would be going on a hunger strike in protest of his unlawful detention in Lebanese jails without any charges.
Paul Romanos, the lawyer overseeing the case, disclosed on Friday that his client was only consuming minimal amounts of water and had been experiencing weakness and muscle pains. Romanos said: "Despite his ailing condition, Hannibal Gaddafi's resolute determination is what keeps him going," The New Arab reported.
Romanos reiterated his rejection of the client's imprisonment and cited Gaddafi who said: "In the face of persistent injustice and abuse against me, it is time for me to be released after more than a decade in prison for an arrest and allegations of a crime I did not commit.
Hannibal Gaddafi has been kidnapped from Syria in 2015 and brought to Lebanon, where he was seeking refuge after fleeing Libya after the killing of his father. Lebanese police later announced it had collected Hannibal from the northeastern city of Baalbek where he was being held. He has been detained in a Beirut jail without trial since then.
In 2011, Moammar Gaddafi was killed by Libyan opposition forces, bringing an end to his four decades of rule in the North African Country.
