Lebanese Prime Minister Rafiq Hariri arrived in Tehran on Monday for talks with Iranian officials on bilateral and regional issues, reported the official Iranian news agency (IRNA).
Prior to his departure, Hariri told IRNA that during his visit to Tehran he would discuss the latest regional developments, particularly the critical situation in the Palestinian occupied territories, with President Khatami and other senior Iranian officials.
Terming Tehran-Beirut political, economic, and cultural
relations as expanded, he stressed that bilateral cooperation had never been so broad.
The Lebanese premier further expressed the hope that ties between the two states would become even stronger in the future.
Meanwhile, the Lebanese Daily Star newspaper reported that Hariri would visit Cairo in late June.
Egyptian Ambassador Adel Khedry said both Lebanon and Egypt had agreed that their higher joint committee would convene its fifth session in Cairo on June 25 and 26 during Hariri’s visit.
