Lebanese Prime Minister Rafiq al-Hariri has met the United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Kofi Annan, telling him that Israel is violating Beirut's sovereignty almost daily, the ABC News said on Sunday.
Annan has urged Israel and Lebanon to respect the Blue Line separating the two countries as stipulated in Security Council resolutions.
The line was delineated by the UN in May last year following Israel's withdrawal from south Lebanon, which it had occupied since 1978.
Tensions in the region grew earlier this month, in the wake of attacks by Hizbollah guerrillas and an Israeli retaliation against Syrian targets in Lebanon.
A daily owned by Hariri criticized the timing of the Hizbollah attack which came ahead of Hariri’s US visit.
The premier is due in Canada Monday – Albawaba.com
