Lebanese Prime Minister Rafiq Hariri will travel to Tehran next week to discuss ways of bolstering ties between Beirut and newly re-elected President Mohammad Khatami, reported the Daily Star newspaper on Thursday.

It will be Hariri’s second visit to the Islamic republic, where he met with senior Iranian officials in January.

The main purpose of the visit, which will take place on Monday, is to congratulate Khatami on his landslide victory last Friday, said the paper.

Khatami’s previous term witnessed a marked improvement in bilateral relations, which before then had been restricted to Iran’s ties with the Lebanese Hizbollah movement.

Meanwhile, AFP reported that the Lebanese premier would visit Russian on July 3 for talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin on bilateral and regional issues – Albawaba.com
