Harvard Medical School Dubai Center to Present Second Tamayoz Awards on 10 April
Harvard Medical School Dubai Center (HMSDC) Institute for Postgraduate Education and Research, a member of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Academic Medical Center and Dubai Healthcare City (DHCC), a member of Tatweer, today announced it will present the second ‘Tamayoz Awards’ for excellence in clinical care and medical research at the Raffles Hotel in Dubai on 10 April, 2008.
Designed to stimulate the academic careers of young healthcare professionals and recognize outstanding contributions, the HMSDC Tamayoz Awards have received significant response throughout the GCC region. Winners will be awarded one month internship at a Harvard affiliated hospital or laboratory in the United States.
Dr. Muhadditha Al Hashimi, CEO, DHCC, said: “Tamayoz Awards have succeeded in highlighting the role of Dubai and the contribution of DHCC to enhancing excellence in health care, research, and medical education in the region. The awards will further reiterate Dubai’s commitment to developing the skill sets and knowledge capabilities of the medical community.”
The Tamayoz awards include three main categories, each comprising sub-categories in Clinical Care and Research. The Trainee Award acknowledges the work of medical interns, residents and fellows. The Young Physician Award recognizes physicians who have completed postgraduate training, while the Nursing and Healthcare Professional Award honors nurses and allied health professionals active in clinical practice or employed as medical educators.
Dr. Robert Thurer, Chief Academic Officer, HMSDC, said: “The Tamayoz Awards encourage outstanding members of the healthcare community to pursue careers in advanced academic medicine. The awards are designed to help transform Dubai into a leading medical center while allowing professionals to continuously raise the bar on individual performance.”
As an initiative to support the HMSDC’s vision to provide a qualitative link between the Gulf region and the global medical community, the awards seek to create a cadre of leaders in academic medicine, constituting a steady stream of professionals complementing the intellectual resource of DHCC and eventually the region.
Open to physicians, nurses, research scientists, and allied health professionals in the region, the awards invited applications from professionals less than 40 years of age. Candidates were also required to be nominated by a Medical College Dean, Department Head or immediate supervisor.
HMSDC is a joint effort between Harvard Medical International and DHCC to develop the region's leading medical cluster into a center of excellence for healthcare delivery, medical education, and research.
