The UAE drivers from the H.H Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Racing Drivers Academy has left for France yesterday morning to compete in the second leg of the Formula Renault Campus. The race will take place at the 3.1 kilometre Ledenon Circuit in the city of Nimes.
All eyes will be on the team’s three drivers Hasher Al Maktoum, Mohammed Al Kamda and Faisal Al Redha, who will be accompanied by Racing Instructor David Terrien, The inaugural race of the season was held at the Nogaro racetrack and saw the team put up a spectacular performance. Making their Formula Renault Campus debut, the UAE racing team announced their arrival by grapping three of the top ten places.
“We have mixed feelings about our performance in the first race day” said Hasher Al Maktoum, “Though we were happy to finish among the top ten, we know our potential and capability well enough to recognise that we have it in us to get podium finishes. We have a great team behind us and we are very keen on making the UAE proud” he added.
Their preparations for the second race will begin with a practice session at the 4.3 Bugatti track in the legendary Le Mans circuit. This will be followed by a free practice session at the Ledenon circuit, the race venue, on the 30th of April. The next two days promise to be hotly contended with the 2 qualifying sessions followed by the race day which consists of 2 races.
The H.H Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Racing Drivers Academy, the first of its kind in the UAE aims to select and train young UAE drivers and give them the ability to race and compete at the highest international level. It will deliver a comprehensive approach to educating and training UAE nationals and provide them with all the training and support to enhance their racing skills.
If the team’s performance in the first race is anything to go by, the academy can hold its head high and proclaim that their endeavour and hard work is bearing fruit and promises a bright future for motor racing in the region.
LA FILIERE organises the French Formula Campus Renault Elf championship, with 7 weekend meetings and 14 races. This championship will start in mid April and finishes in October.
