ALBAWABA - The attacker who opened fire at the Tarkumiya checkpoint in southwest Hebron, killing three Israeli soldiers, has been identified.
The assailant was identified as Martyr Muhannad Al-Asoud, a former Idna inhabitant and member of the Palestinian Presidential Guard. The home where Al-Asoud sought sanctuary was encircled and attacked by Israeli troops, leading to his death, as acknowledged by the Israeli military.
After around two hours of siege by Israeli soldiers, the building was finally hit by rockets. The military searched the adjacent village of Idna extensively after the incident, which resulted in several arrests.
For the seventh day in a row, Israeli soldiers resumed their assault on the city and refugee camp in Jenin, in the northern West Bank. Palestinian rebels and Israeli soldiers engaged in violent skirmishes, with many bombs directed at Israeli military vehicles.
Israeli troops were injured in an ambush that was attributed to the Al-Quds Brigades of Jenin. Israeli troops have been storming houses and uprooting families in the camp; the Palestinian Red Crescent reported two injuries from live bullets.
The infrastructure in the city and camp, particularly the area around the Ibn Sina and Khalil Suleiman hospitals, is being demolished by Israeli bulldozers.
22 Palestinians have died as a consequence of the current Israeli operation, which is said to be the biggest since 2002, in Jenin, Tulkarm, Tubas, and the adjacent villages.
