Abderrazaq Mihamou, a Berber from the Atlas Mountains in Morocco is an expert in novel techniques for language learning. He has teamed up with a group of researchers and linguists to put together an educational CD ROM to help learn and teach the Berber language of Amazighe.
Mihamou gave an interview to the Moroccan news source www.Kabyle.com, Tuesday, 30 November, in which he described his techniques and motivation in teaching this language which has been neglected as a minority language in Morocco, after Arabic and French, for decades.
The innovator mentioned that his CD ROM is the first of a series of five songs to be used to familiarize the world with the Tifinagh alphabet, in which Berber is written. Asked how he came to the idea to create such a CD, he said that he desired to transmit the language of his ancestors, realizing that he himself knew the language imperfectly and something inside caused him to campaign for its preservation.
Youssef Ait Lemkadem, a professor at IRCAM, was instrumental in putting together the material.
