Historic White House Court Hearing Opens

A historic court hearing that could determine who becomes the next president of the United States opened Monday. 

"The court is certainly aware of the historic nature of this session and is aware that this a matter of utmost and vital important to our nation, our state and our world," Florida Supreme Court Chief Justice Charles Wells said. 

Attorneys for Democratic candidate Al Gore and Republican George W. Bush were allotted one hour on each side to present their arguments for and against inclusion of manual recounts of votes in the November 7 presidential election -- TALLAHASSEE (AFP)
