An Estonian schoolboy may have lost his chance to attend a world mathematics contest in the United States after sending an e-mail with a hoax death threat to US President George W. Bush, the daily Postimees reported Tuesday.

The 16-year-old math talent wrote the e-mail message holding Bush responsible for the September 11 terror attacks, signed it "Your Death" and sent it to the White House while in a computer class, the newspaper said.

The prank may prevent the boy, whose identity was not given, from receiving a US visa to attend a world olympiad for young mathematicians in the United States next spring, and his parents may have to pay a fine, according to Postimees.

The US embassy in Tallinn told AFP it does not comment on visa or security matters.

US authorities contacted the Estonian security police to track down the sender of the message, and the boy admitted sending the e-mail.

The headmaster of the school in Ahtme, northeast Estonia, said the boy was a top student and very well-behaved.

"He is not a troublemaker," the director was quoted as saying by Postimees. "He is deeply sorry for what he did” -- TALLINN (AFP)
