Hong Kong's biggest museum showcasing the territory's rich culture heritage from ancient China to modern comics was opened by Chief Executive Tung Chee Hwa Saturday.
The Heritage Museum will exhibit a collection of around 70,000 items, more than half of which were donated by groups and individuals.
Yim Shui-yuen, chief curator of the museum, said it would help the conservation and study of Hong Kong's cultural heritage through a variety of exhibitions.
Permanent exhibitions include the T.T. Tsui Gallery of Chinese Art which will display artefacts from China's 6000-year history.
Six thematic exhibitions will also be staged including a "Hong Kong Comic World" focusing on the development of one of favorite elements of Hong Kong's contemporary culture.
The museum is the largest of Hong Kong's 13 heritage museums.
Located at Sha Tin, in the southern New Territories, the museum opens to the public from Sunday -- HONG KONG (AFP)
