ALBAWABA - A massive blaze tore through a children's hospital in India, claiming the lives of at least 6 babies.
Senior police officer Surendra Choudhary stated in a statement that "all 12 newborn babies were rescued from the hospital with the help of other people, but he also mentioned that six of them had already passed away by the time they received medical attention. Choudhary stated, "One of the 12 was dead before the fire began," without providing any more information.
The fire engulfed an adjacent building, with no reports of casualties or injuries. Delhi Fire Services chief Atul Garg said an oxygen cylinder blast was the likely cause of the fire.
"It was a very tough operation. We made two teams. One team started firefighting because there was a blast of cylinders. We can say it was a chain of blasts of cylinders. We had to save ourselves also. We started rescue operations for babies as well. Unfortunately, we could not save all the children... That is a regrettable incident" Garg told ANI news agency.
The incident follows a massive fire catastrophe that occurred in Rajkot, Gujarat, where a large blaze tore through a gaming zone, killing 24 people, including nine children.
