A German prisoner released his female hostage without violence Thursday, a day after barricading her into his cell at knife-point, officials said, reported (AFP)
The 27-year-old prisoner had an interview with a 35-year-old social worker at a prison in Bautzen, southeast Germany, late Wednesday before threatening her with a knife and keeping her in his cell.
He released the woman and gave himself up after a police commando intervened, local officials said. Details of the police action were not immediately available.
There was no evidence yet that the hostage had been wounded, a police spokesman said. Police were still trying to make contact with the prisoner to find out what he wanted, he added.
The prisoner, who is from Bischofswerda near Bautzen, is serving an eight-and-a-half-year prison sentence for sexual attacks.
It was the third hostage-taking incident since December last year at the same prison, which holds 795 inmates. The two previous incidents ended without injuries – (AFP)
