Following the successful introduction of Destination Accommodation Exchange (DaeX) at the Arabian Travel Market 2006, select key hoteliers representing two, three, four, and five star hotels from across the UAE attended the launch event yesterday evening. The event was jointly hosted by DaeX’s creator Mercator – one of the aviation industries leading IT solutions suppliers, and its partner MICROS-Fidelio the hospitality industry’s leading provider of integrated software solutions.

Held at Cascades, at The Fairmont Hotel, hoteliers had the opportunity to learn more about the features and functionality of DaeX as well as the developments incorporated since its launch at the ATM. Simon Lewis, the Manager of eVentures, Emirates Group, shared the wide ranging benefits of this solution, the world’s first real-time Internet hotel inventory consolidator for multiple and independent hotels worldwide.

Daex is a free web service that interfaces a hotel’s property management system (PMS) to an internet booking engine or tour operating system enabling automated booking of hotel and apartment accommodation based on availability. DaeX’s business model works on fixed fee based transactions.

“DAEX is a global first for the hotel and travel industry.  Its capability to facilitate hotel bookings and reservations in real-time, increases the capacity for a hotel to manage its inventory while reducing costs at the same time. Hotels who have it will have a definite competitive advantage,” Lewis commented.

Any travel business using DaeX can eliminate human error from the booking process and obtain allocated and non-allocated rooms from a hotel’s management system at the click of a button. DaeX helps tour operators and Destination Management Companies (DMCs) streamline their revenues, increase productivity and gives them an immediate view of available inventory. Hotels, meanwhile, benefit by increased efficiency, cost savings and market share maintenance through an additional distribution channel.

The Fairmont Hotel, Dubai, is among the first of a number of properties in the UAE to adopt DaeX. In addition to other leading four and five star hotels in Dubai who have recognized the rewards of having the DaeX system in place, two and three star hotels will also enjoy a host of benefits, all of which were highlighted at yesterday’s event.

To increase functionality and service DaeX has been combined with a unique Hotel Information Management System (HIMS) which is compliant with Open Travel Alliance standards.  This web-based system provides a web-service to users allowing information on the property, its products and services to be distributed dynamically.  Immediate benefits identified by hotels include cost reductions and accurate and consistent information to the trade, hotel guest and employee alike from a single and easy to manage environment.

Designed by Mercator - the global aviation industry’s leading IT solutions supplier, and developed jointly by MICROS-Fidelio, the hospitality industry’s leading provider of integrated software solutions - DaeX builds on the leading hotel property management system and caters to 99.7% of all five star and 60.2% of all four star hotel rooms in Dubai.

The event ended with a Q&A session giving current and prospective hotelier users the opportunity to explore the functionality and benefits of DaeX.
