ALBAWABA - The Yemeni Houthi movement, known as Ansar Allah, has announced a military offensive targeting vital targets in southern Israel, escalating regional tensions.

According to Houthi military spokesperson Brigadier General Yahya Saree, "Our forces executed a qualitative operation targeting military and strategic sites of the Israeli enemy in the areas of Jaffa and Ashkelon in occupied southern Palestine." He claimed that numerous drones hit their targets throughout the operation.

These attacks were in sympathy with Palestinian and Lebanese resistance, Saree said. "Our operations are part of the fifth phase of escalation, aimed at responding to the crimes committed by the Zionist enemy in Gaza and Lebanon," stated. Saree underlined that Houthi attacks would continue until Israel stops its aggression, lifts the Gaza blockade, and stops activities in Lebanon.

As part of their assistance for Gaza, the Houthis have attacked Israeli-linked vessels in the Red Sea and Israeli borders since November 2023. Israeli attacks on Gaza, which began in October 2023, have killed nearly 147,000 Palestinians, including many women and children, and caused severe destruction.

The US and UK have bombed Houthi-held Yemeni targets with airstrikes and missiles. In response, the Houthis have set their sights on all American and British ships in the Arabian and Indian Oceans. Expanding their strikes to encompass ships within their weapons range has escalated the battle.

As violence and humanitarian concerns rise, international mediation efforts are strained, signaling regional instability.
