i2, the largest mobile phone provider in the Middle East and Africa, held its annual employee meeting during a lunch event that was held at the Four Seasons Hotel, Amman on 1st April 2007, and followed by the announcement of i2 employees’ awards.

The event was attended by the CEO of i2 Group, Abdul Hameed Al Sunaid, and the General Manager of i2 Jordan, Shaker Fahmi, together with 90 of i2 Jordan staff.

During the event, Al Sunaid delivered a presentation featuring i2’s accomplishments over the years since its foundation in 1993 as a local handset distributor employing four people in one retail shop in Saudi Arabia, through to its emergence as a regional group with a network covering 22 countries in the Middle East and Africa. Today i2 is supported by its 1,500 professional multinational staff coming from 38 countries across the Globe.

“i2 Jordan has played a significant role amongst all i2 branches during the expansion stage of our operations, being the first market to obtain the i2 brand name outside Saudi Arabia. I would also like to thank the i2 Jordan skilled staff headed by Shaker Fahmi for their significant contributions to the success of this company making it the leading mobile provider and distributor in the region today,” said Al Sunaid.

“We are pleased to host the CEO of the i2 Group, Abdul Hameed Al Sunaid, in this event which is a demonstration of our appreciation of our valued employees’ consistent efforts during 2006. We are keen to continue our successful achievements and positive contributions which are part of the i2 Group success story,” said Fahmi.

Al Sunaid also highlighted the i2 strategy which focuses on penetrating undersubscribed markets which, while presenting challenges, also offer the potential for greater growth than more established markets. The company’s move into western markets, meanwhile, is viewed by Sunaid as proof that regional companies can thrive on a global scale. In 2007, i2 will continue to focus on Africa, with a goal of penetrating three new markets.

The presentation furthermore featured the values of i2 which are demonstrated in Innovation, Honesty, Commitment, and Quality products and services. “Over the last year the company has launched several customer focused subsidiaries to further enhance positive interaction with clients, such as i2 club, i2 TV, i2 magazine, and i2 café.” commented Al Sunaid.

The employees’ awards which were presented by Fahmi included employee of the year 2006 award, maintenance engineer of the year award, and sales representative of the year award. During the event, i2 management also held a raffle draw offering valuable prizes to attending employees.

The event was concluded by a stand up comedy show presented by Jordanian actor Nabil Sawalha and his band, who entertained the attendees with an amusing one of a kind performance that added an enjoyable atmosphere to the event.
