DSS theme celebrates the arts and offers “Step into the World of Cartoons” experience


Onlookers at Ibn Battuta Mall were mesmerized by the diverse captivating performances marking the official launch of the mall’s DSS campaign on Thursday evening June 21st.

During the half hour show, over 200 visitors amongst children, youngsters and adults from all nationalities watched in amazement as Cartoon Character Barney stood out from the crowd at China Court singing, entertaining and interacting with visitors. Further attractions have captivated the mall’s visitors throughout the evening as Fifi the Flower Character appeared fascinating excited children with her colorful outfit.

Inspired by “Step into the World of Cartoons” theme, this year’s celebrations will present an artistic spectacle combining a unique blend of family fun get together, world class performing arts and interactive games. Moreover, throughout the evening at Ibn Battuta Mall, and wandering between the different courts, a fascinating Jumping Show turned heads spectacularly standing out from the crowd and interacting with shoppers.

Also at China Court, a quiet corner was created for children to watch on plasma screens fun edits of old and new cartoons, read old comics and well known cartoon character annuals on bean bags in a relaxing and friendly atmosphere. Children explored the development of Cartoon and the history of comic books from around the world and travel to France to discover the History of Asterix The Gaul, to the UK with Postman Pat and to Italy with Lupo Alberto. Step Into The World of Cartoon Exhibition will run daily from 5–10 pm from June 21–28.

“It was a great way to launch this year’s Ibn Battuta Mall’s DSS celebrations which have been inspired by the arts of Cartoon and which will offer visitors to the Mall a truly unforgettable DSS experience.” said Colin Fenton, Mall Manager.

Parents can be reassured that their children will be entertained at Ibn Battuta Mall. Using a dedicated team of artistes, innovative arts and crafts workshops will be held for children to attend for free. A painting corner in Egypt Court saw children express themselves in color and take their masterpieces home. The workshop was an introduction to Cartoon Drawing using materials used by the cartoonist Figure drawing.
Face Painting, Painting, Cartoon Drawing, Flick Book Making, Cartoon Songs, Zoetrope Making, Cartoon Quizzes, Storytelling and Magic Shows will run throughout DSS free to children to communicate through Art.
