Four Iraqi sailors arrested by Kuwait last month were repatriated Tuesday through the International Committee of the Red Cross, the ICRC said in a statement.
The men were handed back to Iraqi authorities at the border post between Abdali in Kuwait and Safwan in Iraq in an operation "carried out with full cooperation from authorities of both countries," the statement said.
"The government of Kuwait requested the ICRC, as a neutral intermediary, to facilitate the repatriation of these seamen to Iraq," it said.
"ICRC delegates ... visited the four Iraqi nationals and, following the usual procedures, spoke privately with each of them to make sure they wished to return home of their own free will," the statement added. (Albawaba.com)
