Twenty-four illegal immigrants heading for the Saudi Kingdom drowned when a storm destroyed their small boat in the Red Sea near the Sudanese port of Sawakin, a press report said Monday.

Only one of those on board, Mohamed Medani Salim, survived by swimming to a nearby island, Akhbar Al Youm daily reported, saying he was taken by fishermen to hospital in Sawakin.

Authorities retrieved only two of the bodies of the other passengers, the daily added. (Albawaba.com)
