The illiteracy rate in the UAE has dropped to seven percent among people in the 15-45 year age group, compared to 72 per cent in 1972 and the UAE Ministry of Education and Youth hopes to reduce it still further by launching a number of pioneering projects, according to a report in the UAE Yearbook 2002.

The report pointed out that there is a stress on adult education, because despite huge improvements in education, some members of society, especially the older generation, remain educationally disadvantaged, WAM reported.
