According to BNA, the Malaysian government has announced an increase in the retail price of gasoline amid soaring global oil prices, news reports said today.
The decision took effect today, less than three months after the government previously raised petrol prices in early May, The Star newspaper reported. The Prime Minister's Department said the price of gasoline would now be 1.58 ringgit (42 U.S. cents) a litre, compared to 1.48 ringgit (39 U.S. cents) previously. Meanwhile, the price of diesel increased to 1.28 ringgit (34 U.S. cents) a litre from 1.08 ringgit (29 U.S. cents). Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Shafie Apdal said the price increase was a collective decision and the Government had weighed many factors before implementing it.
