An Indian man convicted of smuggling heroin into Saudi Arabia was beheaded Thursday, reported Saudi Press Agency, quoting a statement by the interior ministry.
Sago Gham Mrogan was found guilty of smuggling an unspecified quantity of heroin into the kingdom and was executed in Dammam in eastern Saudi Arabia, the statement said.
Thursday's execution brings to at least 98 the number of people beheaded in the kingdom this year, according to The Associated Press, adding that at least 99 people were executed last year.
The executions have been criticized by human rights organizations, which say Saudi Arabia often fails to give the accused fair trials and point out that Islam calls for limiting the use of execution as punishment, added the AP - (Several Sources)
