Indians living in Bahrain are rushing to take advantage of a new three-month amnesty scheme that is to be offered by that country's government from October 1st, The Times of India reported Tuesday.
S.S.Gill, India's Ambassador in Bahrain, was quoted by the Indian paper as saying that the embassy there has been receiving requests for special travel documents from Indians who want to take advantage of the amnesty offer.
According to the daily, about 3,500 to 4,000 Indians are expected to take advantage of the amnesty offer for illegal residents, the fourth announced by Bahrain in the last five years, giving illegal immigrants the option of either regularizing their stay in the country or leaving the country without having to pay huge fines for over-staying - Albawaba.com
