Visitors to the Dubai Mall, part of Emaar Malls Group that is a key sponsor of DSF 2010, were treated to a unique Indian thanksgiving dance called the Badhai recently. Performing this DSF for the first time in the GCC, the Badhai Dance Show is being showcased throughout DSF by the travelling dance group Inspiration Dance Academy. The 17 professionally-trained members of the Badhai Dance Group include 12 male and 5 female members. They have been performing for about ten years now, and have graced the stages and festivals in places like Russia, Hungary, Thailand, and Switzerland, to name a few.
Typically a tribal dance from India's Madhya Pradesh state, Badhai dance reflects the customs and traditions of India through the graceful movements and colorful costumes. It is actually performed during weddings and religious rites as a means of giving thanks to everyone who comes and participates. The centuries-old choreography is accompanied by traditional musical instruments such as dhol (band drums) and flutes.
Catch the Badhai dance group at Arabian Center on Feb 3rd and 4th at 6:30pm, 8pm, and 9:30pm. The group will move to Dubai Marina Mall on Feb 5, to Dubai Mall on Feb 6, and to Lamcy Plaza on Feb7 and 8. Timings remain the same.
