A Qatari princess killed herself by taking a massive overdose of prescription drugs in a luxury London hotel shortly after arriving in the UK, an inquest in London into her death concluded Wednesday.

Sheika Muna Mohamed Al-Thani, aged 39, was found slumped against the door of her room at the Intercontinental Hotel on September 7, a London coroner's court heard.

Days prior to her death, the princess refused a doctor's suggestion that she be admitted to a psychiatric unit to be treated for years of depression.

Sheika Muna had arrived in England in August with her husband, Qatari government minister Sheikh Mohamed Al-Thani, and their 11 children.

Coroner Paul Knapman said of her death, "It gives me no pleasure to state the obvious but I conclude from the evidence that this was an intended act.

"She had been depressed and she has taken a massive overdose of tablets with the intention of killing herself," he told Westminster Coroner's Court, according to AFP

A toxicology report showed that massive amounts of prescription drugs had been found in the princess' body.

She had 10 times the standard fatal level of paracetamol in her blood, 20 times the standard fatal level of the painkiller dextropropoxyphene and 30 times the fatal limit for the antidepressant lexotanil. (Albawaba.com)
