A deputy to Moscow Mayor Yury Luzhkov targetted in an assassination bid Tuesday was in "critical" condition, hospital sources said, cited by Interfax news agency.
Surgeons were continuing to operate on Josef Ordzhonikidze, whose organs were penetrated by a bullet, the sources said.
NTV private television reported that doctors fighting to save the top city official's life had already carried out several blood transfusions.
Two men opened fire on the car carrying Ordzhonikidze, who is in charge of Moscow's foreign economic relations, shortly after 9:00 am (0600 GMT) in the heart of Moscow, killing his driver, media reports said -- MOSCOW (AFP)
