international businesses keen to explore dubai’s perishable products facility
The Dubai Flower Centre (DFC) is expected to increase its ties with international businesses in the perishables cargo sector as could be gauged from the recent spate of enquiries and interest shown by various sections of the industry.
A DFC delegation that attended the Fruit Logistica 2007 in Berlin from recently had a hectic time receiving business enquiries from top industry decision-makers, wholesalers & retailers besides importers and exporters who were keen to learn about the facilities at the Dubai centre for perishable products.
Mr. Ibrahim Ahli, Marketing Director, DFC said: “We were overwhelmed by the amount of enquiries from international businesses about the Dubai facility, which has already grown significantly within a short span of time since going operational. This is an indication of DFC’s growth potential, the booming economies of the region and the visionary initiative of Dubai’s leadership.”
Organized annually by Messe Berlin GmbH in cooperation with Fruchthandel Magazin, the Fruit Logistica Berlin is an International Trade Fair for Fruit and Vegetable Marketing. The show brings the world of fresh produce under one roof and offers a broad spectrum of top international exhibitors, an excellent platform for initiating business deals, an outstanding opportunity to establish world-wide business contacts and a unique chance to get an overview of the prevailing trends in the international fresh produce business.
This year the three-day trade fair, with 72,000 square metres of indoor exhibition space attracted 1,867 exhibitors from 74 countries and offered a comprehensive market overview of the entire fruit and vegetable value chain. For DFC, the event provided an ideal opportunity to interact with global industry leaders and top government officials.
Mr. Ahli said: “Because around 86% of the exhibitors at Fruit Logistica 2007 came from outside Germany with more than 75% of the trade visitors from other European countries or from other continents around the world, the DFC could determine the level of interest about the Dubai facility from them. It would be quite appropriate to say now that the DFC has made its mark in the global perishables industry.”
“The DFC is also looking at some of the fruits and vegetable products that are supplied from the East, West and Southern Africa, South and South East Asia besides Australia and New Zealand. For these suppliers the DFC can be quite handy in terms of logistics support” pointed out Mr. Ahli.
“Our visit to the Fruit Logistica 2007 fair definitely proved fruitful and we expect the DFC to see further growth in the coming months,” said Mr. Ahli.
The Berlin show targeted growers, fresh produce importers and exporters, wholesale markets, wholesale and retail outlets, packing, shipping and disposal companies, institutions, associations.
