Eddy Greenwood, the former Gold Greenlees Trott and BMP art director, is joining JWT as Executive Creative Director for Mazda Europe.

Greenwood will be charged with managing JWT’s creative output and driving media integration for Mazda across 15 markets. He will be based at JWT Düsseldorf and succeeds Dietmar Reinhard and Oliver Kapusta.

Commenting on the appointment, Ron Vrijmoet, COO for JWT Continental Europe, said, “Eddy has the depth of experience to shepherd the business across our network of agencies and drive co-lateral ideas for this increasing dynamic brand. Historically, Mazda has always succeeded when it has dared to be different. It is ready to live up to its heritage and to take some risk and have some fun .That’s a great opportunity for any creative director. For Eddy, the challenge is to be daring, ingenious and fun.”

Greewood has worked on Mazda previously at GGT in London and PMSv W/Y&R in Amsterdam. At PMS his work for the “Amazing Mazda” campaign was awarded a Gold TV prize at Cannes. He started his career at Lintas London as an art director in 1978 but later moved to FHV/BBDO Amsterdam and then KSB/Y&R Melbourne. In 1984 he moved back to London with Y&R and then switched back to Lintas to work on Toyota. Between 1987 and 1990 he worked for GGT and BMP before returning to Amsterdam in 1990 to work for PMS and in 1995 at Lowe Kuiper & Schouten. More recently he has run his own agency, Greenwood Varossieau & Co.

Said Greenwood, “Mazda is a great challenger brand and has some fabulous new models. I’m relishing the opportunity to raise the bar on creativity on this business and extend the success of the “Zoom Zoom” campaign. The chance to work for JWT across so many markets and lead the agency’s Mazda creative community is very attractive too.”

Mazda, part of the Ford Motor Company portfolio, has in recent years been the fastest growing Japanese automotive brand in Europe. JWT also handles the business out of Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore and Thailand.
