Total investment in drinking water, sanitation and roads projects in Egypt’s northwestern coast have reached LE1.908 billion ($490 million), said Minister of Housing and Utilities Mohammed Ibrahim Soleiman on Saturday.
"Drinking water investments in the area hit LE1.200 billion," he said, adding that the third stage of Al Amriya water station was underway with a capacity of 240,000 cubic meters per day, and a cost of LE120 million, Egypt Online quoted him as saying.
He said that preparations were afoot to build a potable water plant south of Al Alamein with a capacity of 334,000 cubic meters in two stages, the first costing LE180 million and the second LE170 million.
"Moreover, seven desalination stations are currently being set up in western Mersa Matrouh with a capacity of 5,900 cubic meters per day and costs of LE70 million," said Soleiman.
He added that overall investments in roads and bridges in the northern coast had hit LE353 million, while money spent on sanitation facilities had reached LE235 million, including LE200 million for Mersa Matrouh and LE35 million for the Mubarak Housing project in Amriya, the news service quoted him as saying - Albawaba.com
