Iran’s interior ministry announced on Tuesday that it is working hard to ensure “sound” elections in all constituencies on June 8, reported the Iranian News Agency (IRNA).
Director general of the elections department, Abbas Ahmadi, told the agency that the ministry's strategy is based on ensuring sound elections and helping achieve high public turnout.
He said the 8th presidential elections, the Majlis by-elections and the Experts Assembly elections are to be held nationwide concurrently on June 8 this year.
He added that Majlis by-elections will be held in 15 constituencies in 10 provinces.
He said that from March 31 to April 6, those applying for candidacy at the elections will be registered.
He added that names of those running for the 8th presidential elections will be registered from May 2-6.
According to IRNA, the presidential campaign will last for 19 days ending on June 7.
The by-elections for the Experts Assembly, IRNA said, will be held in provinces of East Azarbaijan and Qom on June 8 and candidates in these two constituencies will be registered from April 11-17.
About 7,000 ballot boxes had been envisaged in the Majlis by-elections, 40,000 for presidential elections and about 2,000 for by-elections of the Experts Assembly.
